Teacher's Month : A Tribute to My Mentors

A year ago i was able to read an article that the month of September was considered a Teacher's Month. It was really a surprise though that there was such thing as Teachers Month, Wow at last! Before, I was only familiar with Teacher's Day, even in high school, I can still recall celebrating teachers day with our teachers. But whatever term we will call this month, it's always best to recognize the efforts that all our teachers are doing in molding our youth. I'm not saying this just because I am a teacher, but because once in my life time I was also a student like everyone else. This years teachers month, I would like to take this opportunity to thank and recognize the efforts of my mentors, (since my primary years up to college) who in one way or another has contributed to where I am now today, A teacher.

In my elementary, i was blessed to have the encouragement and support of my Grade One, Teacher: Mrs Carolina M. Bustillo, who patiently taught me how to read and write. A million thanks to you Ma'am for patiently waiting for me while copying our lessons on the board. To my grade two teacher, Mrs. Cultura (I forgot her first name though) for the loved and support the whole year round since our section is also called Love; Grade Three, Mrs. Apolonia Viray, a stern and disciplinarian Ma'am; Grade Four, Mrs. Emma T. Gaid, who taught me the beauty of music and reading notes; Grade Five, Mrs. Jocelyn T. Uy who also had a passion for music like her sister Ma'am Gaid and to my grade six teacher, Mrs. Bernadette Goloran, who gave us lots of advice as we move to puberty. They are all my beloved teachers at Urios Grade School.

During my high school, i was also bless with the undying effort of my first year adviser, Mrs. Lagnada; Second year, Mrs. Milagros Sayaman who always gives us her words of wisdom in every discussion of "Florante at Laura", "Noli Me Tangere" and "El Filibusterismo". For she was also our teacher in this subject as we moved to the higher level of our high school life. My third year adviser, Mr. Leonidas A. Quistadio, who can ever forget the very memorable experience in our JS Prom. A superb event organizer and eloquent english teacher. He taught us plenty of english words and to love the spelling subject. Thanks Sir! ( I pass the board exam because of your vocabulary words). My fourth year adviser, Miss Evelyn S. Bandola ( already married but i had no idea about her surname) and of course to our very beautiful and articulate english teacher Mrs. Vivian D. Otaza, though not my adviser but she inspired me a lot during my high school days. I finally met Ma'am Otaza a last summer, my she was still the same gorgeous Ma'am Otaza. - I can't help but wonder why teachers never grow old.

For my college days, I also had a few teachers who really inspired me in taking education as a career and probably the reason why I also become a teacher. Who can ever forget Mrs. Mary Grace Lee-Ybanez, our practice house teacher. Who is very active and supportive during our stay at their residence. Mrs. Belen Ubagan, our excellent garment teacher. With her, I learned a lot of techniques when it comes to sewing. Mrs. Ferarin Dumlao, our Food Trades and Baking teacher, who always calls us her "barlaat" girls. A term given to our batch, because she always laughed at our jokes and stories during laboratory time or shall we say baking time. They are all my beloved teachers at MSU-IIT.

To all my mentors, thank you so much for the gift of patience, love and understanding. You have done a good job in instilling in your students the good values of life. As teachers too, we hope and pray that we will be able to follow your good example, and guide our future generations to become a more productive citizens of our country.

  1. Ma'am, it is really touching how you admire your mentors even up til now. I would also like to send my thanks to your mentors. For without their help, I would never have met Ma'am Toledo. I think the way you admire them is like the way you treat your own parents and they are your close friends, whom you will never forget in all the years to come. It really is touching.

Note: This is my comment for this website...including my insights (above), what I have learned, and etc. (below)

    What I have learned:
    PHOTOSHOP
    * Photoshop is a program that can be used to enhance any picture and make it much more prettier (if you know how to use it, of course..)
    * Using Photoshop, many pictures all over the world have been beautified.
    * John and Thomas Knoll (along with Russel Brown) created the Photoshop program.
    * Photoshop had first been called Display, then to ImagePro, and so on and so forth.
    HTML
    * It is used to make html files on the web. Like this blog.
    * It can contain anything: text, images, videos, games, links, etc.
    * To create an HTML, one must learn the codes, tags and basics to make a proper HTML file.
    * An HTML can also contain the contact information of the creator.

I think I like Photoshop better because I can create works of art (charr) using the brush tool, a couple of colors and a few this and that. I can also do better in Photoshop than HTML files. HTML is more difficult to create because you need to memorize all the tags. Using the Photoshop, I was able to make an autumn-themed background, bubble background, leafy background, etc...I really do like Photoshop better.
